About Me.
I am a current doctoral student at Auburn University. I am mentored by Andreas Kavazis in the Muscle Biochemistry Lab within the School of Kinesiology. My research interests are in mitochondrial function and morphology, and how both of these components matter in the context of obesity and diabetes. Throughout my PhD program I have become familiar with mitochondrial isolation through centrifugation differentiation, mitochondrial respiration measurements with Hansatech OxyTherm chambers, Western Blots, and other plate based assays to measure mitochondrial activity. My dissertation is exploring the metabolic differences between migratory and residential birds located in California. My career research goal is to be able to better understand how the mitochondrial network contributes to metabolic diseases, and how the morphology of the network effects the function of the mitochondria.
